New York's NoMad hotel bar had us all thinking about illustration this week. The NoMad is serious about cocktails. The menu changes either seasonally or when head bartender Leo Robitschek feels a new concoction is required.
The bar has added a creative tip to the cocktail ordering. Drinking cards, beautifully designed by New York Times illustrator Wendy MacNaughton. Choose an alcohol category from the 25 cards and then a mood like Rolling Stones (adventurous) or Batman (dark). The bartender will create their best interpretation from your choice of cards. Great way to get the indecisive types, who spend way too long mulling over the menu, to try something new!
The Barlow Doherty studio has 2 illustrators, Sarah and Hannah. They are at their happiest with ink or watercolour, hand drawing a wine label. One of their brilliantly crafted creations, La Fleur d'Amelie, is currently on the shelves of Marks & Spencer.
